Frequently asked questions
I only work part time, can I still join the LGPS?
08:54, 16 Apr 2008Yes, If you become employed in Local Government (other than Town and Parish Councils) with a contract for at least 3 months, you will automatically become a member of the Local Government Pension Scheme unless you opt not to join. However, if you are a casual employee you may not be allowed to join.
Your membership will be reduced in proportion to your part time hours. For example, if you worked 50% of full time hours for two years, you will be credited with one year’s membership.
