Dependants benefits
A spouse's, civil partner's or nominated cohabiting partner's pension, is payable from the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) if you are married, in a registered civil partnership or are a nominated cohabiting partner on the date of the member's death.
Survivor benefits usually comprise of one or more of the following elements:-
- a survivor's pension
- a lump sum death grant
The survivor pension benefits payable to a spouse, civil partner or nominated cohabiting partner is dependent upon the membership status of the member at the date of death
- if death occurs whilst the member is contributing to the LGPS
- if the member left the LGPS before 1st April 2008 and dies with an entitlement to a deferred benefit
- if the member left the LGPS on or after 1st April 2008 and dies with an entitlement to a deferred benefit
- if the member retired from the LGPS before 1st April 2008 and dies whilst in receipt of a pension
- if the member retired from the LGPS on or after 1st April 2008 and dies whilst in receipt of a pension .
