Introducing the Adoption Support Helpdesk
Published: Thursday, April 27, 2023

The way you can request support from our team is changing; in the beginning of April we launched our new ‘Helpdesk’. The Helpdesk is staffed by a team of skilled and trauma informed social workers, providing immediate support with minimum delay. Our Helpdesk social workers are available to offer a safe, non-judgemental therapeutic space to families, to explore their child and the family’s current circumstances, identifying possible support needs whilst being mindful of their own wellbeing.
Alongside the introduction of our Helpdesk, with have introduced our online Pathway Assessment which is the new pathway into our service. The Pathway Assessment allows us to have a better understanding of your situation and your needs as quickly as possible so we can signpost you and talk with you about the best options to support you in the most helpful way.
When we receive your Pathway Assessment, a social worker will make contact with you. One way we might offer support to you, is via therapeutic listening conversations. ‘Therapeutic Listening Conversations’ offer a collaborative talking space with our helpdesk therapeutic social workers. We aim to discuss the challenges you are experiencing in your family and explore these in a trauma informed way.
Some of the benefits might include:
- An opportunity for parents to feel heard and have their feelings validated.
- An opportunity to think and reflect about your child’s experience to support the rebuilding of relationships.
- To identify situations that are causing the difficulties and work towards change.
- What does help look like for your child and family.
It is hoped that this intervention will feel supportive in as much as it can improve communication, support relationships, and enable families to move on positively through challenges.
Beyond the helpdesk work there might be situations where you need more in-depth assessment, planning and direct work. We will then allocate a social worker to work with you, your family and support network to ensure your needs are best met.
