Nottinghamshire Local Pensions Board Recruitment

The Nottinghamshire Pension Fund is recruiting to its Local Pensions Board.

The Local Pensions Board assists the Administering Authority secure compliance with the Regulations, and other legislation relating to the governance and administration of the Local Government Pension Scheme. It also helps ensure the requirements imposed by the Pensions Regulator are met and the effective and efficient governance and administration of the scheme.

What will you do?

In carrying out your duties as a member of the Board, you will be acting on behalf of all employed members, pensioners and deferred pensioners in the scheme. You would therefore have a duty to act impartially and in good faith.

You will have the chance to explore issues around the administration and governance of the Nottinghamshire Pension Fund. To enable you to do this, you will be able to request information regarding any aspect of the Council’s function as the Administering Authority of the Local Government Pension Scheme in Nottinghamshire.

You will be able to express views and make recommendations about the running of the scheme to the council and relevant committees. The Board also has a responsibility to escalate any serious concerns relating to any potential fundamental breach of legislation or governance failure to the relevant body.

As a representative of Fund members, the work in which you’ll be involved means you may have access to confidential information. You would be required to protect that confidentiality.

Meetings

The Board meets formally four times each year. Meetings are currently scheduled on Thursday mornings and last a couple of hours. They are scheduled to avoid school holidays. Meetings take place at the council's democratic headquarters.

Time commitment and remuneration

In addition to attending the four formal meetings each year and completing the required training, you may also be invited to workshops, which give members an opportunity to look at matters in greater detail.

While fund member representatives are not paid for their services, you will be reimbursed for reasonable travelling and other out of pocket expenses (within the United Kingdom) that you incur while carrying out your responsibilities.

The initial period you would serve is 4-years, but you would be eligible to apply for reappointment.

What is expected of you?

You don’t need to be a pensions expert, you just need common sense, an interest in seeing that the Pension Scheme is well run, and a willingness to learn about the scheme and how it works.  While there is a lot to learn, you would be provided with full training, which is a requirement for members of the Board. You will also have access to help and advice from other members of the Board and officers from the pensions team.

Each of the returned forms will be reviewed and a shortlisting exercise will take place. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a brief interview. If there are any dates that you would not be available for interview, please let us know when you submit your application.

After interviews have been completed, the successful candidate will be notified and their name listed on the Pensions website. Please note that the decision of the appointment panel will be final and there is no right of appeal.
